Rav Zvi and Rabanit Oshra Koren

Rav Tzvi and Rabbanit Oshra Koren founded the Kinor David community in Raanana the week of Parshat Noach 1998.

They’re parents to 4 children and grandparents to multiple grandchildren.

Rav Zvi

"I believe that within the framework of religious communities we need to grow in our ability to be significant and relevant to wider circles in Israeli society

Part of the catalyst for founding Kinor David was so that the shul would belong to everyone, would be heterogeneous and include members from as many different circles as possible.

Our community is founded on 3 principles: Prayer with feeling and joy, being a place where everyone feels welcome and can find their place to express themselves and creating a fitting place for women to take an active role within the shul within the framework of halacha.

I believe that it’s possible to turn the acceptance of ol malchut shamayim and the performance of Mitzvot into something which uplifts and fills a person with joy.  Prayer and Torah learning in our community is aimed at attaining those goals."

Rabanit Oshra

“I believe that Hashem’s Torahwas given to both men and women alike and there for it’s important for me to delve into it and make it more accessible to women.

It’s important to me to bring people closer to Torah according to their individual level and where they’re at at any given time.  I believe in a Torah of joy that enlightens and is full of depth and relevance; a Torah of justice and charity.  Shul in my view is a place that’s meant for the general public, long time locals and new Olim, women and men, old and young, religious and secular.  I believe in giving an active and honorable place to women within the shul community and in the davening itself so long as it conforms to the boundaries of halacha."
